During the 2020 lockdown, I embarked on a journey to share my love for children’s books on Instagram. What started as a friendly competition between my husband’s BBQ page (@borderline_sauced) and my bookish venture (@bookishburnsss) soon turned into an unexpected side hustle. With no kids or pets to distract us, we poured our passions into creating content and watched our follower counts grow.

Little did I anticipate the demands of maintaining a thriving bookstagram. It involves constant content creation, book hunting, and staying on top of everything. Despite the challenges, the joy of sharing what I love never fades. Sure, there are moments when comparison creeps in, prompting much-needed breaks. Yet, overall, this platform has brought countless blessings and opportunities into my life.

Here’s why I adore BOOKSTAGRAM!

Connections: This platform has built friendships and connections for me. From meeting my book bestie Courtney (@ramonarecommends) to now being a bridesmaid in her upcoming wedding this June truly shows the bonds that have been formed and are truly special. Sharing my passion with fellow book enthusiasts who truly “get it” is an unparalleled joy.

Opportunities: BOOKSTAGRAM has opened doors to opportunities I never imagined. Collaborating with publishers and brands to showcase their products is a privilege I deeply appreciate. Their trust in my ability to represent them is humbling.

Helping Others: A core motivation behind my presence here is the chance to assist parents, educators, and children in discovering meaningful reads. Receiving messages expressing how a recommended book has resonated or sparked enriching discussions in classrooms fills me with immense joy and purpose.

Receiving Books: The amount of books I receive and share is nothing short of amazing. Each one is a discovery that I wouldn’t have known about otherwise. Imagining the adventures awaiting in Whit’s library as he grows fills me with gratitude for this abundance of knowledge and inspiration.

Pursuing My Dream: Witnessing the reception of my book, Failure Friday, on this platform is a dream come true. Seeing others review and recommend it is a constant reminder of the power of storytelling and the supportive community that fosters it.

If you are ever thinking about starting one, here is your sign! Take the leap and do it 🙂

Here are two of my very first instagram posts during the pandemic! I even made snacks that went ALONG with the book! I wish I had that much time now LOL.

I knew I could use SO many picture books to introduce the idea of viewing things from many different perspectives. Not only did it allow for an easy lesson that I didn’t have to heavily prepare and prep, but it opened so many opportunities for great classroom discussions. My students were intrigued by each story and were able to see illustrations that accompanied each point of view. The visual representation made it easy for them to understand. It allowed students to understand how authors use their writing voice to portray multiple character’s perspectives.

These are just a few books that I loved using in my classroom!

To purchase books use THIS link (Amazon Affiliate)

In our house, interactive books are a HUGE hit right now! Interactive books are fantastic for toddler-aged kids to upper elementary kids! All I know is now I am determined to find more interactive books that will resonate with not only my son, but with MANY kids!

Interactive Books are so important for many reasons! Here are the top FIVE reasons they are important:

1. Multi-Sensory Learning: When reading interactive books, having a multi-sensory experience really captures your child’s attention. They can be more appealing and allow for a long attention span when reading a book.

2. Skill Development: My son loves being able to be hands-on while reading! He can turn the pages, lift the flaps, touch the sound buttons and feel different textures. It allows him to develop his motor skills!

3. Learning Style: All kids have different types of learning styles. These are great books for visual learners. This will allow them to have a more personalized learning experience and remember and retain information better.

4. Adult-Child Interaction: Children feel included when you can both interact while reading the story. Showing them where to touch, lift, press, etc. makes them feel bonded to you and wanting to read more!

5. Creativity and Imagination: Many interactive books include sound effects which adds a layer to the reading experience! This can help children build vivid images in their brain!
